Excise Tax

UAE Excise Tax applies to goods considered harmful to health, including tobacco products, energy drinks, carbonated and sweetened drinks, and electronic smoking devices and liquids. There is no turnover threshold: anyone importing, producing or stockpiling these goods, or releasing them from a Designated Zone, must register. We handle registration, classification, monthly returns and the stock controls the FTA expects.

01Who must register

Excise Tax registration applies to importers of excise goods, local producers, businesses that stockpile excise goods beyond normal levels, and operators of Designated Zones where excise goods are held.

Even occasional importers need to register before bringing goods into the UAE, so early planning avoids shipments being held at customs.

02Sweetened drinks and the sugar-content model

The treatment of sweetened drinks has moved from a flat rate to a tiered model based on sugar content. Producers and importers need accurate product data and, in many cases, laboratory evidence to support the tier applied.

We help you collect that evidence, update product registrations and adjust pricing and returns so your figures match the new rules.

03Returns, stock and reconciliation

Excise returns rely on precise stock records: opening balances, imports, production, releases, exports and losses. Small gaps compound quickly over monthly periods.

Our bookkeeping team reconciles stock movements with customs declarations and your ledger each month, before each return is filed.
