Audit & Assurance

VAT errors tend to repeat every quarter until someone spots them, and penalties grow with time. Our VAT compliance review tests your past returns against your books and supporting documents, identifies errors and risks, and helps you correct them through a voluntary disclosure before an FTA audit does it for you.

Reconciliation of VAT returns to the general ledger
Review of tax invoices and credit notes for FTA requirements
Input tax recovery and blocked-expense checks
Zero-rated and exempt supply classification review
Reverse charge on imports and foreign services
Place of supply and designated zone transactions
Error quantification and penalty exposure estimate
Voluntary disclosure preparation where needed
Process recommendations to prevent future errors

01

Lower penalties

Errors corrected voluntarily generally attract lower penalties than those found in an FTA audit.

02

Recover missed VAT

Unclaimed input tax is often identified and recovered.

03

Audit confidence

A documented review file prepares you for any FTA inspection.

04

Better processes

Root causes are fixed so errors stop recurring.

01Why VAT errors build up quietly

Most VAT mistakes are not deliberate. A supplier invoice without a valid TRN, an expense type that is blocked from recovery, an export without the right evidence, or a service from abroad where reverse charge was missed. Each one is small, but repeated across quarters they add up.

Because the same process produces each return, the same error usually appears every period, which increases both the tax due and the penalty exposure.

02What we test

We reconcile each return to your ledger, then sample transactions across sales, purchases, imports and adjustments. We check invoice content, supply classification, place of supply and recovery rules, and we look at the risk areas most often raised in FTA audits.

You receive a clear report showing each issue, the amount involved, the periods affected and the recommended correction.

03Correcting errors the right way

Where corrections are needed, we prepare the voluntary disclosure or next-return adjustment and the supporting explanation. We also fix the underlying process, whether that is a software tax code, an approval step or staff guidance, so the error does not return.

  1. 1

    Collect

Returns, ledgers and a sample of invoices are gathered.

  2. 2

    Test

We reconcile returns and test transactions against VAT rules.

  3. 3

    Report

Issues, amounts and penalty exposure are set out clearly.

  4. 4

    Correct

Disclosures or adjustments are filed and processes fixed.

It is an independent check of your VAT returns and the records behind them. We test whether output tax, input tax and supply classifications were reported correctly and whether invoices meet FTA requirements.
