VAT

A VAT registration must be cancelled when a business stops making taxable supplies or its turnover falls below the voluntary threshold. The application is due within 20 business days of the triggering event, and the FTA will not approve it until all returns are filed and all balances are settled. We manage the whole process so your TRN closes cleanly.

01

Avoid late penalties

We file within the 20-business-day window, so no penalty for late deregistration.

02

Stop filing nil returns

Close the TRN instead of paying for returns you no longer need.

03

Clean exit

All balances settled and documented before the licence is closed.

04

One coordinated team

VAT, Corporate Tax and licence cancellation handled together.

01Common reasons to deregister

Businesses deregister when they close, sell their operations, merge into a tax group or simply see turnover fall below the threshold. Each case has a different trigger date and set of tasks.

Pinning down the correct trigger date matters, because the 20-business-day deadline runs from it.

02The final return

Your last return must include all sales up to the deregistration date and VAT on any remaining stock and assets where input tax was claimed.

We value those items, prepare the return and make sure nothing is left that could reopen the file later.

03Part of a wider closure

If you are closing the company, VAT deregistration sits alongside Corporate Tax deregistration, final accounts and licence cancellation.

We plan these steps in the right order, so authorities receive the clearances they need and your exit is not delayed.

  1. 1

    Confirm trigger

We establish the event and date that require deregistration.

  2. 2

    Settle the file

We clear outstanding returns, payments and penalties.

  3. 3

    Apply

We submit the deregistration request with supporting evidence.

  4. 4

    Final return

We file the last return and confirm the TRN is cancelled.

When you stop making taxable supplies, or when your taxable supplies over the past 12 months fall below the voluntary registration threshold of AED 187,500 and are not expected to exceed it.
