A business must register for UAE VAT once its taxable supplies and imports exceed AED 375,000 in the past 12 months, or are expected to in the next 30 days. Businesses above AED 187,500 can register voluntarily. We confirm whether and when you need to register, prepare a clean application and handle FTA queries until your Tax Registration Number (TRN) is issued.

Clear advice

We explain whether voluntary registration makes commercial sense for you.

01Who needs to register for VAT?

Any person carrying on business in the UAE whose taxable supplies and imports pass the mandatory threshold must register. Taxable supplies include standard-rated and zero-rated sales, so exporters and international service providers count their turnover too.

Non-resident businesses that make taxable supplies in the UAE, where no one else is liable to account for the VAT, must register regardless of turnover. We review your sales mix to confirm exactly where you stand.

02Mandatory or voluntary: which is right for you?

Voluntary registration lets young businesses recover VAT on rent, fit-out and equipment, and can improve credibility with larger customers who expect a TRN on invoices.

It also brings filing obligations and record-keeping duties. We weigh the input VAT you would recover against the compliance effort so you can make an informed choice.

03After registration

Getting a TRN is only the start. Your invoices must show the required details, your accounting system needs correct tax codes, and your first return period must be diarised.

Because SMAS Venture is a bookkeeping-first firm, we set all of this up as part of registration, so your first return is built on clean, VAT-ready books.
